What should I do if my child is going to be absent?

Please call the school (864-2363) before 10:00 AM to report an absence or illness.

What should I do if my child will be late for school?

 

A

Students must report directly to the office upon arrival. If a student is 5 minutes (or more) late for class this will constitutes an absence.

If my student is absent due to illness during the day, may my child participate in an extra-curricular activity that day?

 

A

A student who is absent due to illness during the school day will not be admitted to after school extra-curricular activities.

What will happen if my child gets sick or hurt at school?

 

A

There is a nurse that visits the building throughout the day. If your child gets sick or hurt, you will be notified by telephone so you can come pick your child up if necessary. It is extremely important that the office have at least two telephone numbers to call in case of a medical emergency. If your child has a fever, he or she should be kept home until there has been no fever for 24 hours. Other instances may require a doctor's release.

Is there a dress code at Mt. Zion High School?

 

A

Students in Mt. Zion School District are expected to wear clothing in a neat, clean, and well-fitting manner. Students are to use discretion in their dress and are not permitted to wear apparel that is distractive or obscene. Bare shoulders/bare backs and bare midriffs are unacceptable. Any shirt with a shoulder strap width of less than 1-1/2" will be unacceptable. Please refer to the handbook for additional information.

What do I need to do upon entering the school as a visitor?

Please report to the office to sign in and receive a visitor badge. This helps us enforce safety and security in our building.

What is the grading scale at the High School?

The Mt. Zion School District has a uniform grading scale.
A 90% - 100%
B 80% - 89%
C 70% - 79%
D 60% - 69%
F 0% - 59%

How can I get make-up work for my child who has been absent?

 

A

If your child is on an extended absence, you may contact the high school office to request homework. Please call by 10 a.m. to have homework available by 3 p.m.

I am new to the district. What will I need to do?

 

A

You will need the following information to show proof of residency to the school when registering your child.
1. A rent receipt or proof of purchase proving residency within the boundaries of the Mt. Zion School District.
2. A copy of the parent's/legal guardian's current voter's registration card.
3. A copy of the parent's/legal guardian's current driver's license.
4. Verification of a mailing address within the district.

How do I find out about my child's bus schedule?

Please call the Bus Garage at (217) 864-5233 and they will provide you with your child's schedule.

What do I do on emergency school closings?

 

A

EMERGENCY SCHOOL CLOSINGS When the decision is made to close schools for the day, the Districts parent communication system will be activated. Parents/guardians/staff will receive notification via home phone, cell phone, work phone and/or e-mail. Radio and television stations will also be notified. School officials will make every attempt to determine if conditions call for school closing by 6:30 a.m. at the latest. If there is no announcement, school will be open as usual. In the event school is dismissed early or closed for the day due to weather conditions, the cancellation of all co-curricular activities and/or practices will be determined by the administration

How do I pay for my student's lunches?

 

A

Each student will use their student ID Number. Lunch payments will be accepted on the first day of each week from 7:20 a.m. - 7:45 a.m. in the front foyer of the High School. Students may also make deposits anytime in the cafeteria office until 10:00 a.m. or during lunch.
